what is exo-box-ology?

eXo-boX-ology? Okay it's really not a word - we made it up. We had to - there was no word to describe what we wanted to say other than "out of the box", and that's not too original or catchy. So Exo means "out of"; box - you know that part; and ology is "to study". We wanted to study how to be OUT of the box. Not to keep doing life the same old miserable way. No women's ministry with same old doilies and teacups sipping the latest gossip, complaining and boring you to tears. We wanted things different; we wanted to do life that mattered and love God with every part of who we are and what we have. To love the Lord with all our heart, all of our soul, and all of our mind. The double X's mean it's for women, (like our xx chromosomes) about women (we are unique creatures) and from women (we address what we know so well because we are women too!) that want to know God, share God and do the will of God. But it goes a step further than the usual go-to-church sort of relationship. We want to be women that impact our neighborhoods, nations, and the next generation where they are - out there! Most of the world is not in the box of the church, so why do we try to go there to do ministry? We go in to the church to learn how to live out of the church - out there where people are. We are not against church, but feel like so often people think they do church like they check off a "to do" list. We think we are the church, and wherever we are, we can become an influence for righteousness, justice, love, peace, joy and so much more - in places that are in desperate need of what we have - relationship with the Almighty God!

We want to be women of praise. We have so much to be grateful for; so much to give praise about. It is what we want our first thoughts to be caught up in from our awakening each day to our lying down each night. Praise changes attitudes, attitudes change people, and people change places. We want to be women who bring change. Good situations or tough situations - women of praise.

We want to gather regularly to learn what God has to teach us through Bible study, but studying is not where we want to leave it. We want to be in it so much until it is in us! Until we live, breathe, and think the Word. We want to take what we are learning and be the church?the hands of God all over our world. We want to be people of the Book who not only know about God but also really know Him.

We want to be women of worship. Focusing our thoughts, our hearts, and our actions on the worth and value of God. It is seeking Him first, praising Him most, and knowing Him best. It is not just a Sunday thing; it is how we do life.

We want older women to disciple younger women - each generation reaching back to the next generation - whether it is a child, a teen, or a woman just a few years younger. We need to learn from those who have walked ahead of us; we need to teach those who walk behind us.

We want to be women of purpose,
impacting our communities. We don't just want to be good at doing church. We want to be good at doing PTA, soccer practices, school, work, home?life!

We want to be women who love well. Loving others, loving God, and loving the world are basic - loving well is a challenge.

We want to be women of prayer who see by faith what is not yet seen - believing God for great things yet to come; believing prayer is God's plan for our communicating with Him.

We would love to say that we are so great at all of this, but the truth is we are not! But we are working on it, and we want to be good at it. It is a process - none of us have it down pat. We are all growing. We are all in need of grace and need to give out grace - a lot of grace! That's the fun of doing it together. Some days we can help you, and some days you can help us, but either way, together is best. So get out of your box, and come along. It's a little risky, we know, but it is also thrilling!

Our way to stay in touch, to keep you updated and pray for you, is our weekly eXo-boX-ology newsletter via email.
