Vision for Maundy Thursday Home Gatherings
Maundy Thursday is a day that commemorates the Last Supper and centers around communion. In the past, we have had gatherings at Grace for Maundy Thursday, but this year we want to encourage everyone to get together in homes with friends, family and neighbors to share a meal and then be led through a time of teaching, worship, prayer and taking the elements of communion together. We will provide content online or on dvd that will lead you through the process.
How Do I Participate?
There are 3 ways that we recommend:
1) Host you own gathering: This is a great way to open your home to friends and neighbors, or just a sweet time to gather as a family! Here are a few things you need to know:
- How does dinner work? It's up to you, but we recommend Pot-luck style. You can let people know when you invite them. We'd recommend the host family provide the meat and drinks and everyone else bring a side and dessert. We imagine you'd eat first, hang out and then gather together to go through the Maundy Thursday experience online or by watching the DVD.
- What do I need to have technology-wise? Either a TV with a DVD player, or the ability to play something online. DVD's will be available at Grace Sunday, March 28th, or if you can view online at www.gfc.tv/live. For technical assistance you can contact Trey@gfc.tv.
- What about kids? We recommend whole families do this together. This is a great opportunity to model for your kids authentic Christian community.
- Anything else we should have? Just some bread and juice to share communion together. You will be guided through this experience by our pastoral team via the DVD or online experience.
2) Gather with your House Church or Small Group: If you are in a House Church or Small Group, this will be a rich addition to what you're already doing. See above for some helpful information.
3) Contact a Host Home: In the list and map of Grace host homes below, you can find someone you know or is closest to your location and contact them. The host can explain what they are planning for the meal, and will probably ask each person to bring a side dish or dessert. Since these are family gatherings, children should come!
